Scout Ski Trip: Jan 22-23

The boys will meet at Forest Hill Church on Friday night, Jan 22 at 5:30pm and spend the night at the church (lock in). The boys will eat dinner together and do the usual lock-in activities. The troop will get up at the crack of dawn, eat a quick breakfast and head up to Appalachian Ski Resort. The boys will get a lift ticket, ski rental (including helmet) and a 60 minute group lesson. After a day on the slopes, the troop will head home. They will stop for dinner on the way.

The cost of the trip is $99. This includes everything EXCEPT lunch at the slopes. Please have your scout bring $15-$20 for lunch and snacks. Lunch will be on their own.

The deadline for signup and payment is Wednesday, January 13th.

Camp Grimes Summer Camp Deposit

Troop 112 will attend Summer Camp from Sunday June 19th to Saturday June 25th at Camp Grimes. The payment for camp this year will be a total of $340.00. Camp is $280, the remaining balance is travel related expenses (gas, food on the way up & back, & troop t-shirt.) We are asking for a $40.00 non-refundable deposit by 1/15/2016 to secure your spot at summer camp. You can make the initial deposit payment via Paypal on our website or by contacting Mr. Stuart (Darrell.stuart@baml.com) if you still have camp card monies left. The remaining balance of $300 is due in $100 increments on 2/1, 3/1, & 4/1 and will be set up as a recurring charge on our Paypal after the deposit date.

Patrol Olympics, Cooking Contest & Climbing Tower at Belk Camp

Patrol Olympics, Cooking Contest, & Climbing/Rappelling at the Belk Tower

The December Boy Scout trip will be to Belk Scout Camp from Friday, 12/11- Sunday 12/13. Which patrol will be victorious during the Patrol Olympics and who will emerge as the Top Chef of the Fire? The boys will sleep in the Adirondacks and will have access to the climbing/rappelling Tower. The cost of the trip is $45. Please sign up by Sunday Dec 6th so the boys can plan the trip at the Monday meeting on the 7th. If you want to use Camp Card money please contact Darrell Stuart at darrell.stuart@baml.com.

Troop 112 Fund Raiser and Project for Mr. Tucker

The Troop has a great opportunity for fundraising and service hours by hosting a water station at the Thunder Road Marathon scheduled for November 14th. We will be at Water Station #2 located in front of 810 Colville Road. Both sides of street. Please DO NOT park on Colville Road!

There is no charge for this trip since it is a fundraiser and service hours.

For this event, the Scouts will have a “lock-in” Friday night and will be shuttled to the event Saturday morning by 5:30 am for set up. (Please have the Scouts to the lock in before 6:15 pm if they plan to have dinner with the troop.) It will be dark in the morning when we are setting up, so please bring headlamps/flashlights.

We will need a total of 20-25 (more the merrier!) Scouts and Adult leaders to participate in this event to make it as successful as possible. As the runners come through the water station, T112 will be holding out water cups for the runners to grab as they pass by. (We will have a demonstration at the next couple of scout meetings for those who have never seen this event before.) Volunteers will be needed for set up to arrive at the water station sight no later than 6am on Saturday the 14th. Coffee and hot cocoa will be provided to keep us warm while we set up 

I will need to know several things for this event as soon as possible:

1-The name and t-shirt size of Scouts attending the lock in Friday for Saturday’s events (Dinner and breakfast for the Scouts will be provided)
2- names and t-shirt size of adult leaders who are able to participate (for lock-in and/or event on Saturday)
3- name/number/t-shirt size of volunteers coming on Saturday Morning (feel free to invite friends, family and neighbors to participate as well)

Then it is off to the next event. . . .David Tucker has arranged for a conservation project for the troop at Huntingtowne Elementary School. The Troop will be planting flower beds and trees at the school. Any volunteers with access to handy garden tools feel free to bring them along. Make sure your name is on them so you get them back. We plan to migrate the Troop from the Thunder Road Marathon directly to the conservation project. Lunch will be provided on Saturday for all volunteers who attend the events.

This event will earn BIG MONEY for the Troop and lots of service hours for the Scouts.

Backpacking at South Mountain

The troop will be going to South Mountain State Park on Nov 6-8. Friday night they will hike 1.4 miles on the Upper Falls trail to their backcountry campsite. From there the boys will either do day hikes or hike in further for Saturday night.

All meals will be made on the trail and all water will have to be treated. There will be no running water or bathrooms. The cost is $47 per person and includes food, campsite reservations and travel expenses.

The boys will meet at the church on Friday at 4:30 with an ETD of 5pm. Please be prompt as the troop will have to set up camp in the dark. The boys will arrive back at the church on Sunday between 1-2 pm.

Please note that any boys going on the trip NEED TO BE AT MONDAY’S MEETING. The troop will go over menus and how to pack for a backpacking trip.

****Please send you child with a big snack and drink on Friday night when you drop them off. The troop will not be eating dinner until the campsite is setup which may be fairly late.*******

Mountain Man Games

The next trip is October 23-25 at Camp Grimes. It is the Mountain Man Games Camporee. Our troop will be competing against other troops as our skills are tested in the areas of hunting for food (using a bow), lashing skills, 3 legged climb up the climbing wall, crosscut sawing, building a fire and making pancakes from scratch along with several other competitions. Please sign up as soon as possible as the cutoff date for payment to Camp Grimes is October 8th. The cost is $55 and includes all food, gas and camporee fee.

Knife and Sheath Making Trip

On Sept 18-20 we have a Knife and Sheath making weekend at Mr. Paul Bradley’s mom’s house. They will be camping outside on Friday and Saturday nights and cooking over a fire. The trip price is $40 and includes food and the knife making kit. The boys are welcome to come and go over the course of the weekend if they have other commitments but would still like to attend part of the trip.

Paul is asking that the scouts carpool and get themselves to and from the house on their own. Arrival time would be any time after 5pm on Friday. Please remember to bring your signed Release Form and any medicine instructions. Pickup time is 1pm on Sunday sharp at the house. There is running water and bathrooms available at the house. The address is 2512 Sam Wilson Road.

Grayson Highlands Trip

On May 1st-3rd the Troop will backpack and hike at Grayson Highlands State Park in Mouth of Wilson, VA. This park is near Mount Rogers and Whitetop Mountain, Virginia’s two highest mountains. Cost is $80

April Lock In

Meet at the Scout Hut at 5:30 ready to go. Shuttles are reserved to take the boys to Sports Connection in Ballantyne. The boys will bowl and play arcade games. They will also eat there. They will return to the church and spend the rest of the time playing pool, air hockey, playing video games and watching movies. Pickup will be the next morning at 10am. The cost is $22 **Dinner is not included in the price. Have your son bring money so that they can order off the menu at Sports Connection**

Blue Hole Super Trip

Troop 112 – We have confirmed our reservation for the “Supertrip” / Blue Hole camp. As the older scouts will attest, this is a great time with lots of activities.

Logistics:
Dates: Tuesday, July 21 (depart in morning, arrive in afternoon) – Sunday, July 26 (depart in morning, arrive in afternoon)
Duration: 6-day, 5-night
Accommodations: Cabins
Food: Provided by the camp
Cost: $360 per scout or adult Pay thru PayPal in April and two more payments will automatically be billed in May and June.
Location: In the Cherokee National Forest located at the intersection of the NC, TN and GA borders (approximately 4.5 hours away).
